Silas' First HAIRCUT!

I can't believe it's already time for my little man to have his first haircut! But after my dad complained about how long it was for months, I decided to finally have it cut. Plus, it was starting to look like a mess and was getting in his eyes. So, this past Sunday Heidi (the fabulous girl that cuts my hair!) came over to the house and cut Silas' hair! He did so good! We sat him by the sink so that she could wet his hair, and then he ended up playing in the water the entire time. His haircut looks great... he looks like such a little man, but I'm missing the long curly locks a little bit! :) Here are some before pictures from the past couple of weeks, and then I posted pictures of during and after his haircut. Hope you enjoy!

This was right before his haircut... He was playing with Heidi's comb.

He was so good that I gave him a sucker! It wasn't pretty when I had to take it away though! :(

Surprise!! AN UPDATE!

First of all, I want to apologize for being a HUGE slacker!! I haven't updated since March and that is so unfortunate. Silas is growing like a weed! Not only is he physically growing, but his personality is booming as well! He is walking, "talking", saying "uh oh", dancing, and just acting silly. One of Silas' favorite things to do is read... or to be read to. He has a couple of favorite books and he wants me, Nonna, Tuck Tuck, or really anyone who is willing to read them over and over and over again.
Silas loves playing with his cousin Arden. They are so sweet together! They are like siblings... and they get on each others nerves just as siblings do. There are a few pictures of the two of them below.
Silas turned a year old on the 3rd of December. It's unbelievable how fast time passes! This past year has been wonderful. I could not have asked for anything more when it comes to a child. He eats well, sleeps well (most of the time), he's sweet, cute, and VERY entertaining. He gives the sweetest hugs and kisses that will make anybody's day. :) I'm just so thankful for all of the blessings that have been given to me this past year.
I also am so thankful for my family. Every single member of my family has played a huge part in mine and Silas' life this past year. While I'm getting ready for work in the mornings, Silas hangs out with Nonna and Tuck Tuck in their room. Otherwise, Silas would be following me around crying for me to hold him. They are such a huge help! Nonna picks Silas up from Mimi's most afternoons since she gets off work a little bit earlier than I do. Even after I get home from work, Nonna is still very good about helping me give Silas dinner and get him ready for bed. And if she's not helping with that she's usually picking up his toys, clothes, etc. or playing with him while I get him dinner and ready for bed. Tuck Tuck is the entertainer--- Silas would sit in his lap and let Tuck Tuck read and sing to him for HOURS! I'm not kidding... Tuck Tuck has a way with Silas. Silas listens to him better than he listens to anybody else... they definitely have a special bond. I'm also so thankful my my sister, or "Aunt Lindy." She picks Silas up from Mimi's on Wednesdays, and she keeps him on Fridays... sometimes all day! Keeping one toddler isn't so hard, but she has her own toddler to take care of as well. But Lindy is willing to keep him for me and she has a great attitude about it! :) Also, Geoff and Melinda babysit for me sometimes so that I can have a break. That's always so nice because with the stresses of work and being a mom, I definitely need a break! And last but not least, my brother Nathan (or Uncle "Nay Nay") has been a big help. He likes to just come over and spend quality time with Silas, which gives me a little while to get some things done or to at least sit down for a minute and rest. Anyways, I had to give credit to my family for being such a big help! Thanks to all of you! :)
Now, for the pictures... which is probably what everybody is waiting for--- These pictures are from the Beach (August/September '09), the Iron Bowl, Silas' first birthday, Christmas '09, and then some pictures that have been taken since Christmas. It would have just taken TONS of time to go through all of my pictures and pick just a few from this past year, so I just picked some from our most recent events! :) I hope you enjoy and hopefully it won't be months before my next post!

Arden and Silas (it's hard to get a picture where they're both cooperating)

Probably my most favorite picture of Silas :)

Iron Bowl 2009
This is the only picture we have from the Iron Bowl... it was taken kind of spur of the moment but it was hilarious! They Silas was smooshing Arden up against me and we were all laughing about it. I love it! :)

Birthday cake and smash cake

Silas is unsure why we're all standing around singing to him

Enjoying his cake :)

Clapping for himself because we were cheering for him when he'd eat the cake

Christmas 2009
The tree with Silas' gift. Santa didn't wrap them this year because Silas shows no interest in unwrapping things--- but next year everything will be wrapped!

Silas walking into the living room to see what Santa brought him!

He squealed when he saw all of his presents! So cute! :)

Big Boy!!

Happy New Year! 2010 thus far

Playing with Nay Nay--- That is a stethoscope that Silas has around his neck. It's a real one that belongs to Nonna and Tuck Tuck but Silas LOVES it and wears it around all the time!

Yummy Yummy Yummy I've got love in my tummy...

Last week Silas started to eat cereal. When I say eat, I mean he spit it out right after I put it in his mouth... so it would be all over his face, bib, and hands. (see previous post) :) Well... today Silas took a very long nap and after his nap he was very hungry. So instead of going straight for the bottle, mom and dad encouraged me to try cereal first (Usually I give him a little bit of milk before the cereal). I was very reluctant to do that because he was screaming and I knew that cereal wasn't going to calm him down, but I tried it anyways. He cried while eating the first few bites, but mom made him a bottle and would give him a sip between every few bites and he eventually calmed down and ended up eating the whole bowl of cereal in just a few minutes! By bowl, I mean he had a TBSP of cereal mixed with 2 TBSP of water... and we put in some applesauce to help him with his poop! :) So since he did so well with the first bowl, I decided to make a TSP of cereal... and he ate all of that as well! I am so proud of him! I was starting to feel like he just wasn't catching on to eating with a spoon... but tonight proved that he can really do it. And the best part is that he hardly spit it out! I was so excited that I just had to post about it... and also I'm trying to do a better job of posting more often! I hope everybody had a great weekend and I hope your week is as equally great! I probably won't be posting this week... I tend to not have as much time during the week when I have to work! :)

Spending the day at GG and Papaw's!

Today we spent the day at GG and Papaw's and we had a great time! After I got home I realized that I didn't even take any pictures of the babies with their great grandparents, but here are a few that I actually did take!

Uncle Nate entertaining Silas

SO SO sweet! Nathan was determined for them to take a nap together :)

Checking each other out :)

They love each other... holding hands, how sweet :)
And a message to GG from Silas and Arden--- We hope your back feels better soon so that you can hold us! We love you!

3 1/2 months ALREADY!

Silas had his 3 month check up Thursday... just a little bit late. :) He weighs 16 lbs 8 oz and is 26.5 inches long!! He's a BIG BOY! He's above the 95th percentile in weight and off the charts in length! So in other words, in a few years he's going to be taller than me! Silas had to get 4 shots and he did so great! He cried a little bit... but that was to be expected.

I can't believe how much Silas is changing.... just in the past few days it seems that his personality has developed quite a bit. He's laughing... and just acting silly. A few weekends ago we went down to the state championship in Birmingham and on the way back home Uncle Nate wanted to ride in the back seat with Silas. (He's such a sweet uncle) Well he was playing with Silas and had him laughing more than he ever had before! Those are the sweetest sounds! :) Tonight, mom was feeding him cereal and he was laughing at her because she was being silly.

That was more good news... Silas gets to start eating food! He is eating rice cereal now... and I've given him some apple juice as well. He's definitely having to adjust to the cereal... he wasn't a big fan at first, in fact he cried the first time we fed it to him (pictures below), but he's getting much better! I was very excited that Dr.Royster gave me the OK for him to start food because he's been getting up at least once, and sometimes twice a night lately. I know some of you mom's think that sounds great... but for a while Silas had me spoiled because he wasn't getting up at all in the night. In fact, I was sometimes having to wake him up to take him to Mimi's. (Mimi is the lady that keeps Silas during the week) So I'm hoping that the cereal will help him sleep through the night once he gets used to it and actually swallows more than he spits out. :)

So one issue that I'm having with Silas is excema. He has it all over his body and it is just pitiful! I've tried using a milder soap (Cetaphil) and not bathing him every day. I've also tried Aveeno lotion... but it doesn't seem to be much help. It started out just on his arms... and at that point his doctor told me to use hydrocortizone cream... and that seemed to really help. But now it's everywhere... and I don't feel like I should lather him up in hydrocortizone cream all over his body... something about that just doesn't seem right. So his doctor told me to get Carmol. It used to be prescription and now it is OTC. But I've been everywhere... Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS... nobody carries it, they'll have to special order it. So... I guess I'll do that tomorrow. He also has cradle cap... and perhaps some excema on his head as well. And he scratches and claws the fire out of his head... yesterday he woke up and when I went to pick him up he was bleeding! So I'm really hoping we'll have a solution for this problem soon. Does anybody has any ideas??

Well... that's all I've got for now. Enjoy the pictures... and the video at the bottom is of Arden. It is the cutest video EVER! Arden is getting so big and is developing a huge personality... I just love being around her. I'm so glad that Silas gets to grow up with his "sissy" and they get to be so close! I also want to bring up the fact that I appreciate my parents SO much! They have been a HUGE HUGE HUGE help to me... and I know that I can never repay them. I'm so happy that Silas will be so close to his Tuck Tuck and Nonna!

Silas snoozing with Tuck Tuck... I love how both of their mouths are open! haha :)
About to eat some cereal! :) yay!
